Studio Fall 2013
REDCAT: REDCAT's Studio series is an ongoing, interdisciplinary program for new and experimental performance works. This edition of Studio was curated by guest curators Nick Duran and Ayana Hampton, and offers adventurous audiences a glimpse at projects by emerging Los Angeles artists, including:
GINA YOUNG: sSISTERSs
Through warped children’s games, secret girlhood rituals and soaring three-part musical harmony, writer, performer and director Gina Young investigates memory, forbidden sex and the repression of female desire.
NATE PAGE: UNTITLED: THEATER PERFORMANCE
Artist Nate Page engages the audience in an unusual sort of Hide and Seek, when he explores the unique architecture of REDCAT in Untitled: Theater Performance.
Ate9 dANCEcOMPANY: MOUTH TO MOUTH
Choreographer Danielle Agami’s Mouth to Mouth, a new work for ten dancers, plays between instinct and precision, subtlety and prowess, with jarring physicality and stillness, humor and subtle innuendoes featuring an original score by composer and cellist Jodie Landau, and text by Nadav Heyman.
MARSIAN DE LELLIS: OBJECT OF HER AFFECTION: ASHES TO ASHES, RUST TO RUST
A woman who falls in love with inanimate objects discovers that the Golden Gate Bridge has been cheating on her in this excerpt from Marsian De Lellis’ latest table-top puppetry creation.
JIL STEIN: LOSTsandWITCHES
This poignant duet explores ideas of magic in the fluid qualities of movement arising from imagined spaces. LOSTsandWITCHES creates a landscape of mysticism and intrigue.
FOUR CLOWNS: HENRY’S POTATO
Henry’s Potato, a quirky satirical investigation of the intersection between internal thought and external behavior, follows the daily dressing routine of Henry, a layabout heir, by his valet, delving into a unique physical relationship populated with violent half thoughts, guilty consciences, and an obsession with muffins.
