Campus is closed for Winter Break from December 23 to January 3. Staff will be unavailable for LMS requests and remote teaching support during this time.

Faculty Training for Teaching Online

This is a 2-week, guided intensive training course comprised of 14 hours total instruction (5 1-hour “live” sessions over Zoom plus 9 hours asynchronous instruction delivered through Learn). 

The course is a slightly updated version of the course offered this summer—faculty are welcome to register to audit the course a second time if they wish. More information here on the syllabus.

  • December 7 to 21 (Live Zoom meetings scheduled on December 7, 10, 14, 17, and 21, 12-1 pm)
  • January 11 to 22 (Live Zoom meetings scheduled on January 11, 13, 18, 20, and 22, 12-1 pm)

Training for Winter Session Faculty

Special condensed trainings for Winter Session 2021 faculty will be offered during the week of January 4. Details to be announced.

Important Notes

  • Faculty may only sign up for training when they have a confirmed teaching contract for the Spring 2021 semester.
  • Special faculty who are paid hourly should include the hours they spend engaging with training as part of their course prep hours so they can be compensated for their time preparing for online learning.
  • We have put in a request in order to compensate all faculty for the training and are waiting for a decision at this time.

Academic Remote Support

To support CalArts' transition to fully remote learning this fall, the Office of the Provost is offering additional support to CalArts faculty for planning, developing, and running their courses remotely.

A small team of experienced faculty and staff are available for 20-minute 1-on-1 appointments, group drop-in sessions (Wednesdays, 12-1 pm),  or hands-on practice with Zoom or building coursework.

You need to book an appointment on the central booking calendar below. All appointments and drop-ins will be conducted over Zoom; the Zoom link will be emailed to you after you confirm your appointment.

Teaching and Learning Discussion Forums

In conjunction with the Friday Zoom meetings around teaching and learning organized by the Director of Faculty Affairs, this is a supplemental resource to exchange ideas for adapting your curriculum to remote instruction, and to participate in discussions around institute-wide initiatives for building cross-metier collaborations and community.
