MUSIC: The Instrumental Performance Program presents visiting artist Katerina Zenz, as part of the Performance Forum.
German flutist Katrin Zenz is acclaimed as a sensible and virtuoso player with great authority. She is a distinguished pioneer of contemporary music, and a magnificent improvisation artist, who knows how to tame her flutes and to elicit from them the most incredible and wonderful tones, which extend the world of sounds of the flute. With her impressive technique and breath control, her sense of time and timing, she belongs to the rare category of a virtuoso player with unique expressiveness and versatile interests. Her flute becomes a magic flute and her alto flute playing is among the best, and she skillfully executes demanding multiphonics. Brilliantly familiar with a broad spectrum of music, she integrates flute music of all centuries into a new concept of open polymorphic forms and spaces for performance. She is founding member of many chamber ensembles and ensembles of free improvisation, as well as having been a regular member of the Ensemble Köln, the Camerata Athens, and the Ensemble Skalkottas. She is founder and artistic director of the Ensemble TORA, with which she realizes major multimedia projects with open form at the Onassis Cultural Center. Performance highlights include solo recitals at the Onassis Cultural Center Athens, the German Flute Festival Munich 2010, the Künstlerhaus München, the Megaron Moussikis Athens, the Parnassos Concert Hall Athens, as a Soloist in the Flute Concertos by Toru Takemitsu and Mauricio Kagel with the Orchestra of Colours, the Flute Concerto by W.A. Mozart KV314 with the Youth Symphonic Orchestra Athens and many more.
