Celebrates 25th Anniversary and 125 Winners

Faculty member Charles Gaines has been named the recipient of the 2019 Edward MacDowell Medal in the Arts.

Recorded at the world-famous Capitol Studios in Hollywood, the 2019 sessions will feature new original compositions written and performed by students. 

David Rosenboom, Dean of the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, is releasing a new double-CD anthology titled Deviant Resonances—Live Electronic Music with Instruments, Voices and Brains.

The new class Talent Show explores topics such as amateurism, aspiration, awkwardness, and adolescence. With an eye toward US and global entertainment, this course will interrogate the charged relationships between freak shows, circus, talent shows, and reality TV. 

Costume design for animation is among the newest career paths in the age of digital production—and the topic of a current class taught in the Costume Design Program of the School of Theater at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

Recognizing the benefits of arts education, parents in the PTA at Bridgeport Elementary School in Valencia, California took action—and asked CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP) to create and implement an arts curriculum for their school.
