Wildfire Update #3: Oct. 11, 2019, at 5 p.m.

CalArts is expected to resume regular operations on Saturday, Oct. 12, including all events, activities and performances associated with CalArts Weekend 2019.

Campus Safety will continue to monitor the situation overnight; we will update you via email, text and social media should any significant changes occur.

Update #2: Oct. 11, 2019, at 12:55 p.m.

There are several wildfires burning in Southern California currently: The Saddleridge Fire, which is currently burning in the Northern San Fernando Valley, has closed several freeways including the 5 freeway, which leads in and out of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Though CalArts has cancelled classes and today's (Friday, Oct. 11) CalArts Weekend events, the campus is not in any imminent danger from the fire and remains open to residents and CalArts Weekend attendees, as needed. Campus Safety is monitoring the situation, and we will update the community as the information becomes available.

For those on campus, Steve’s Cafe will remain open for foodservice until 6:30 p.m. Tatum Lounge will be open until 8 p.m. for coffee service, snacks and light fare.

Because of the ever-changing situation, we will make a decision later today on the Saturday portion of CalArts Weekend. But as of now, all activities are still scheduled.

Campus Safety and Facilties are in contact with the city of Santa Clarita and the Sheriff's Department and will keep the CalArts community apprised if the situation changes. In the meantime, here are a few online resources and social media accounts to follow breaking wildfire news:
