As you may have seen tonight, Governor Gavin Newsom, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, has issued an executive order requiring that all Californians “stay home or at their place of residence except as needed to maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure sectors.”
The order exempts those working in higher education who are involved in performing essential functions. This allows for staff and faculty needed on campus to maintain operations or launch our remote learning options to travel and be present on campus.
Students, rest assured we will continue to offer housing options and food operations under these unusual circumstances. As always, Residence Life staff are on-campus to answer questions and walk through issues with individual students.
Our campus will remain open to maintain essential operations, including Student Experience and Campus Life, Food Service, CAIT, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Campus Safety, Custodial Services, Facilities and Maintenance, Provost Office, President's Office, and other departments as needed. Supervisors will determine if all or specific positions in these departments need to report to work since, in some cases, only a minimal crew will be required. All staff will receive direction from their supervisors if they are required to report to the campus to support these services. If you have questions or are unclear, please contact your supervisor.
Please note that we have consolidated entrances to increase safety on campus, and all faculty and staff need to enter the building through the campus safety entrance located by the D-Block loading dock and will need a current CalArts ID to be admitted.
