CalArts Campus Power Shutdown: Aug. 15 -24

Based on a recent study and needs assessment, Southern California Edison has identified the critical requirement to replace the Electrical Vault located on our campus. Starting on Monday, Aug. 15 at 8 am, power to the campus will be turned off by Edison to replace the deteriorated vault and manhole located on our property. The power will be restored on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 8 am.

During the outage, the emergency generator will be providing power to critical areas to keep our business operations up and running, while essential employees continue to maintain the integrity of our facilities infrastructure and safety. All other rooms throughout the institute will have no power or ventilation during the outage. Because the limited power and network access on campus will be restricted to business-critical areas, students, staff, and faculty are asked not to visit the campus during this time.

The driveway exiting the campus to Tournament Road will be closed. The Service Center/Mailroom will be receiving packages but will not be able to provide any of their normal services. It is requested that deliveries be scheduled to be received prior to the outage or after Wednesday, August 24th. Please note that the postage meter machine will not be operational during this time. Departments/Schools will need to take any outgoing mail directly to the Post Office.

Important Points
  • If you need access to a loaner device to work remotely during this time, please email cait@calarts.edu as soon as possible.
  • Prior to the outage, refrigerators in all areas should be emptied and defrosted to avoid any water intrusions when the community returns to campus.
  • Remember to delay deliveries to the campus until after August 24th.

As we prepare for an exciting fall semester, Facilities is continuing to work diligently on improving and maintaining the campus operations to provide the best service to our students, staff, and faculty. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
