8 Minutes and 46 Seconds

Today, a memorial service for George Floyd will be held in Minneapolis. His senseless death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, who kneeled on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, has inspired people across the country and the world to demand police reforms and racial and social justice.

In support of the NAACP and its partners, CalArts asks the entire community to observe a moment of silence and reflection—8 min. and 46 seconds, if possible—at 12:45 p.m. Pacific time today, Thursday, June 4, to coincide with Floyd’s memorial service.
