Friday, January 27 through Sunday, January 29 from 7pm-10:30pm
School of Film/Video faculty John Hawk and his Videographics students will be presenting a video installation The Living Quilt. The project is a commission by the City of Santa Clarita Arts Council.
Quilt making as a communal activity for American frontier women became popular during the early 1800s. Known as quilting bees, quilts could be completed in a matter of days instead of weeks or months. These gatherings were more than a means for creating quilts quickly becoming social events important for the often lonely and isolated life of pioneer women.
In this project, a living quilt will be created by combining the abstract colorful moving imagery created by Hawk and his CalArts students. This patchwork video creation will be projected onto one of the walls at the Newhall Crossings Plaza.
