My experience with the blues isn’t a journey of love and passion but an ongoing discussion of race and social-political issues. As an Asian girl coming from another country, doing the blues can be controversial in some cases, which I would never have foreseen. People often misunderstood my intention of doing the blues as a political act, not to mention racist accusations revolved around my skin color and nationality. I was scared to death performing the blues in public. Coming a long way from understanding my own obsession, between the unspoken oppression in my country and the outspoken truth and tears in the music, I’ve got my answers and the blues.
