CalArts Center for New Performance and Duende CalArts welcome back celebrated Mexican performance group Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol. Their latest project, El Camino Donde Nosotros Lloramos (The Road Where We Weep), investigates the migration of people from the Mixtec Region in Oaxaca to the state of California. They narrate the lives of children who grow up knowing that somewhere north there is a place — where some of their family and neighbors live — where they themselves may live. They ask: Why and since when do certain human beings have the right to cross certain borders while others cannot?

Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol are a group of artists based in México, lead by Luisa Pardo and Lázaro Gabino Rodríguez. In 2003 they began to develop projects as a mechanism to link work and life, to erase borders. Their work seeks to provide meaning, to articulate, dislocate, and unravel what is generally overlooked.
