Congratulations to the Class of 2012!

So you graduated and you are free to start your life after CalArts--but there's so much to do--and where should you start? Don't worry. The Office of Student Affairs still loves you and we have compiled some helpful information and resources to help get you get started. We'll keep posting information here, so check back frequently. You may have graduated, but you'll always be a CalArtian!

Health Insurance

  • Remember: if you have CalArts Student Insurance it's good until August 31, 2009.  If you need to see a doctor over the summer, call Student Affairs and 661.253.7874.
  • Artists' Health Insurance Resource Center http://www.actorsfund.org/ahirc/whatisahirc.html
  • The Health Insurance Resource, a program of The Actors Fund, assists both visual and performing artists in understanding their options for finding affordable health insurance. HIRC counsels individuals by Internet, by phone, and in person at local area workshops.

  • Medical Insurance as well as affordable Dental, Life, Long Term Care, and Travel Insurance - Free Quotes
  • Fortis http://www.stm4students.com Short Term Medical is a temporary health plan designed for people who
    are between permanent health plans. (Helpful for graduating seniors who no longer qualify for their parent's or the school's health plan but are not yet covered by an employer's group plan.) Coverage can be purchased for as few as 30 days or as many as 185 days (varies by state).
  • LA Free Clinic http://www.lafreeclinic.org/ The Los Angeles Free Clinic provides high-quality and compassionate medical and dental care, social services and education and outreach to
    men, women and children in need.
  • Anthem Individual Products: http://www.anthem.com/ca/home.html A graduating student can go online and a variety of Anthem individual products are available.

Job Search

  • Job Choices. Features sample resumes, interview tips, job-search advice, links to employers hiring new college graduates, and more.
  • The Artrepreneur http://www.theartrepreneur.com Artist resources, art coaching, financial advice and career tools to help artists succeed. Find articles on self help, how to plan your career and learn about financial planning debt reduction and tax information.
  • CalArts Job Bank: All students are preregistered for the job and internship bank.Access is as follows: Go to www.collegecentral.com/calarts. Click on the "Students" icon. Click on the link to "Log in at Student Central". Click the "Forgot your Password?" link next to the Password field. Enter your Student ID in the Access ID field. Enter your email address. Click the Find Registration button, enter a new password in both fields, and click the Submit button. Note to graduating students: Career Resources will change your status from student to alumni by the end of July of your graduating year. You will continue to use your 6-digit student identification number and the same password. You will just enter the system through the "alumni" icon effective August 1st.
  • ZAPPlication is a one-stop online application manager for artists.

  • Artist Resource: www.artistsresourceguide.org Look here for jobs listings, job-hunting advice and wage rates, calendars of shows, events and classes, readings, interactive forums, competitions, for galleries, portfolios, hundreds of art links, art supplies, advice and techniques, and artists' housing.
  • Artists Meeting Place & Resource Collective (AMP) http://pluginamp.com AMP is a physical and virtual worldwide collective of artists networking together to build and support local and international artists, create new art communities, and enhance those that already exist.
  • CalArts Alumni Network CalArts alumni can publicize events, post or search for collaborative opportunities, find classmates and career mentors.
  • Center for Cultural Innovation http://www.cci2002.org CCI helps self-employed artists, small arts businesses and the nonprofit arts sector start or own their own businesses. Cheap workshops, counseling and great resources!
  • College Art Association (CAA) www.collegeart.org CAA facilitates the exchange of ideas and information among those interested in art and history of art. See the website for career development tools such as: guidelines concerning part-time employment in academia; examples of curriculum vitae for visual artists, artist
    résumé, slide labeling; and more. There are also lists and links to resources and opportunities (e.g. Grants and Fellowships, Internet Resources, Calls For Entries, etc.). The CAA Careers bulletin is one of the most comprehensive sources of college-level teaching jobs in art. You can access this bulletin through the national bulletins section of the Job Bank.
  • Creative Capital http://www.creative-capital.org/ New York based nonprofit. Their Artists Toolbox website is chock full of resources for artists.
  • LA Culture Net http://groups.yahoo.com/group/laculturenet/ LA Culture Net is a forum in which arts administrators, artists, and anyone passionate about the arts in Los Angeles County can communicate with each other. Originally launched by the Getty Center in 1995 in response to interest from local arts, cultural, and educational institutions, the listserv now exists on its own, with some support provided by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. Appropriate postings include announcements of job listings in the field, and art/cultural policy discussions about all topics, including arts advocacy. Event listings will be directed to the LA County Cultural

  • Los Angeles County Cultural Affairs Department www.ci.la.ca.us/cad/The City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs serves as a catalyst for the delivery of high quality arts and cultural experiences. The site contains information on grants and public art opportunities in Los Angeles, as well as a calendar of events for performing and visual arts events.

Tax Information

Transcripts

Requests for transcripts must be made to the Registrar's Office in
writing. Include: your name, when you attended, program, name and address of where to send, and your signature. Address your request to the Registrar's Office in care of CalArts. There is a $3 charge for each set that is sent to you. However, if transcripts are being sent to an institution there is no charge. Any questions can be answered by calling the office directly at 661.253.7842.
