One of America’s legendary animators and an alumnus of the Chouinard Institute of Art (now the California Institute of the Arts), Chuck Jones (1912-2002) made more than 300 animated films in a career that spanned more than six decades. He helped bring to life many of Warner Bros. most famous characters—Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig, personally creating Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin Martian, Pepe le Pew, and Michigan J. Frog among many others.
Jones’ innumerable film and television credits include producing, directing and writing the screenplays for Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the feature-length film The Phantom Tollbooth and directed the classic, What’s Opera, Doc?, which was inducted into the National Film Registry as “among the most culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant films of our time.” He received numerous awards, including three Oscars as director, an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 1996 and honorary life membership from the Directors Guild of America.
