In these recently released rankings, CalArts is second in the nation for multimedia and visual communications [2] graduate degree programs. U.S. News defines this category to span graduate degree programs in video production, interactive design, and journalism.
CalArts is rated sixth among the country’s best graduate schools in the overarching classification of Fine Arts [1], which encompasses graphic design, painting and drawing, and visual communications.
In other specialties within Fine Arts, CalArts is rated fourth for its graduate program in Photography [3], seventh in Graphic Design [4] and Sculpture [5] and ninth in Painting / Drawing [6].
According to U.S. News, “the master of fine arts program rankings are based solely on the results of a peer assessment survey. These rankings, completed in 2012, are based on a fall 2011 survey of art school deans and other top art school academics, two per school, at 230 master of fine arts programs in art and design.” Click here for more information about the Graduate Fine Arts Ranking’s methodology [7].
