Seven out of the fourteen recipients of the 2009 California Community Foundation (CCF) Fellowships in Visual Arts are CalArts alumni. The foundation awarded $260,000 in one-year fellowships to outstanding emerging and mid-career artists working in painting, sculpture, performance art, experimental film/video and multimedia. Emerging artists each received $15,000 fellowships and mid-career artists were awarded $20,000 fellowships.
Mid-career awards went to Jennifer Steinkamp (BFA, Film/Video, 1985), Rheim Alkadhi (BFA, Art, 1994), Edgar Arceneaux (MFA, Art, 2001), Andrea Bowers (MFA, Art, 1992), and Mineo Mizuno (Chouinard, 1968). Zackary Drucker (MFA, Photography & Media, 2007) and Elana Mann (MFA, Art, 2007) were both awarded with the emerging artist fellowships.
