Congratulations: The American Academy of Arts and Letters grants award to Critical Studies faculty member, Steve Erickson
On March 10, The American Academy of Arts and Letters announced its 2010 awards. Among the award winners, is faculty member and editor of the CalArts literary journal Black Clock Steve Erickson, who was awarded the Academy Award in Literature, accompanied by a $7,500 prize. The award will be presented to Erickson in New York in May at the Academy’s annual Ceremonial. The Academy presented seven awards in this category in 2010 to honor exceptional accomplishment in any genre. This year’s committee members included Phillip Levine, Romulus Linney, Rosanna Warren, and Joy Williams.
The American Academy of Arts and Letters was established in 1898 to “foster, assist, and sustain an interest in literature, music and the fine arts.” Election to the Academy is considered the highest formal recognition of artistic merit in the country.
