Circulation

All members of the CalArts Community are to use their CalArts ID Cards to check out library materials. If a member does not have their card with them, a government issued picture ID can be used to check out items. Under no circumstance will items be checked out without one of these forms of identification.

Students

Students may check out books and scores up to a maximum of 50 items. Other collection materials are for in library only. Reserve materials, performance scores and headphones are located behind the circulation desk and students should ask for assistance from the library staff for these items. For all circulation material there is a two time renewal limit.

Faculty

Faculty members may check out books, records, or CD's from the regular collection. CalArts faculty may borrow materials from most of the institutions in the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC). Current directory of SCELC member insitutions is available on the SCELC website. Please see a CalArts Librarian to complete the necessary form prior to visiting another SCELC member library.

Alumni

Alumni that have paid a onetime non refundable $100 library usage fee can check out circulating library items.  Please see a circulation staff member for the appropriate form and procedure. Keep in mind that Alumni patrons do not have access to online databases remotely or interlibrary loan privileges

Guests

Anyone may use the collection in the library. Residents of Santa Clarita or students at College of the Canyons or Master’s College may borrow materials on a one-time basis by obtaining a SCILNET (Santa Clarita Inter Library Network) card from a branch of the Santa Clarita Public Library or their college library.

Renewal Policy

All patrons are allowed to renew all circulating materials twice. Renewal can be done online or in person at the library. To renew items patrons must have a “My Library Account” set up.

  • Go to our library catalog home page http://calarts.worldcat.org
  • Select “My Library Account” in the upper right hand corner
  • Enter your barcode from your student ID. You must have first registered your barcode number at the library
  • Select “Establish password for the first time” at the bottom right hand corner of the box
  • A link will be sent to your CalArts email which allows you to reset your password.

If you need assistance with this process, please see a librarian.

Overdue/Billing Policy

There are no fines for overdue books, however, if materials are not returned or renewed on time the borrower is blocked from using his/her library card until the materials are returned or paid for. Overdue notices for most materials are sent to the patron by e-mail or mail.

Materials that are more than 21 days overdue will be billed for lost replacement plus a $15 processing fee. Students who have bills for overdue library materials cannot register for the next semester or graduate. If the materials are returned after the bill is produced, the entire amount of the lost replacement charge and the processing fee will be removed from the borrower’s record.
