Faculty Guide to Placing Materials on Reserve
Library-owned materials or instructors' personal copies may be places on reserve at the Library Circulation and Information Desk, phone: (661) 253-7889, fax: (661) 254-4561 or by filling out the Reserve request form.
- Reserve Request lists should be received at least 5 working days in advance of assignments to ensure that materials will be ready. This processing period is especially critical during the first six weeks of each semester. Request lists are date/time stamped as received and processed strictly on a first come, first serve basis.
- Materials not listed in the library online catalog may be rush ordered by noting "Please order" on your request. This order process may take several weeks. Instructors will be notified when the library receives the ordered materials.
- Instructors' personal copies of materials may be placed on reserve in place of, or in addition to, library-owned materials. Copies will only be placed on reserve if the library does not own the original from which the copy was made.
- Requests for placing copies of copyrighted material on reserve must conform to the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code). Instructors must to follow the Guidelines for Classroom Copying (http://www.publishers.org/home/abouta/highered/guide.htm) when making photocopies for reserve.
- All photocopies will be stamped with the following notice:
The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproduction of copyrighted materials. The person using this work is responsible for determining lawful uses.
- Reserve materials may be checked out for 2 hours, overnight or 2 days.
- Complete the request list below. A separate list is required for each course.
- All photocopies, except those that are copyrighted by the individual faculty member (i.e. lecture notes, exams, etc.) or those for which the instructor has obtained copyright permission, will be taken off reserve at the end of the semester and returned to the faculty member.
