Visual Arts
The Visual Arts collections and services are available to all library users. The collections include books, exhibition catalogs, artists' books, periodicals, moving image collections, slides, digital images and online databases.
The Visual Arts Librarian, Karen Baxter supervises both Film Services and Image Services. She is the librarian liaison for the School of Art and the School of Film/Video and the program in Integrated Media and is available for assistance to faculty, students and staff.
Book, Periodical and Online Database Collections
The Visual Arts book collections focus on contemporary 20th and 21st century art, film and video, photography, graphic design and integrated media. They include history, criticism and methodologies for these subject areas as well. A large collection of exhibition catalogs from 1960 through 2002 are arranged by year in their own section in the library. Artists books can be viewed by request.
Current and back issues of periodicals are available. Online and print periodical indexes can be used to find articles about your topics. Some articles can be printed directly from the online periodical databases.
Other online databases give you access to the full text contents of various publications such as Grove Art Encyclopedia and Encyclopedia Britannica. The Library subscribed to ARTstor, a large library of art, history and culture digital images that includes software for classroom presentations.
Moving Image Collections
Located in Film Services, the moving image collections serve all schools. Faculty and students in all schools can contact their librarian to make a purchase request or can use the online purchase request form.
Slide & Digital Image Collections
Image Services is currently developing a digital image collection for research, study and teaching.
