Under the general direction of the Registrar, the Institute Academic Advisor coordinates and carries out the academic advisement of undergraduate students, with primary focus on first-time college students and students at risk academically.  Supplementing the artistic advising and development by faculty mentors, the Institute Academic Advisor will introduce new students, on a one-to-one basis, to Institute academic policies and procedures, assess and identify students in academic difficulty, make appropriate referrals to Institute services, and support student retention.  In addition, working closely with School personnel, the Institute Academic Advisor is responsible for maintenance of the student database from which the timely mid-residence and graduation reviews of each student of the institute is scheduled.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • -  Remain current on academic and administrative policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • -  Maintain accurate student database for student review dates.
  • -  Notify Schools of students scheduled for reviews each semester.
  • -  Log and document completed student reviews in the computer and student files.
  • -  Assist in the preparation and implementation of fall and spring registrations and add/drop.
  • -  Assist in the evaluation of student transfer credit.
  • -  Maintain accurate records on students on Academic Warning.
  • -  Other duties and projects as assigned by the Registrar.

 
Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and academic advising or related experience; knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population in a college setting.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills, strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn basic functions of the IBM AS400 system and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team with goals for success as priority.
  • Willingness to work some flexible schedules to accommodate the student body.
  • Skills in accurate recordkeeping with strict attention to detail.
