Information & Responsibilities

The California Institute of the Arts Graphic Design Program invites applications for a full-time position, primarily within the graduate MFA Program. Position commences: Fall 2014.

The Graphic Design MFA Program provides a framework for the advanced exploration of form, methodology, concepts, and practice, informed by a consciousness of the contexts of contemporary practice, craft, audience, theory and history, and the constantly shifting media environment.
Classes in the Design Program are small, intimate and critique-based, fostering debate and discussion. Classes are taught by a group of accomplished faculty, supplemented by a series of visitors and guest lecturers. The Program offers a 2- and 3- year MFA, and a 4-year BFA.

The position involves teaching in a world-renowned MFA Program, where formal and conceptual experimentation and sophistication are highly valued. Applicants should have expert knowledge of a broad range of design disciplines, as well as the ability to teach electives in specialized areas of design. We are interested in an energetic, forward thinking designer/educator who can teach both practice and theory in a critique setting, and who will add even greater dimension to the program. An in-depth knowledge of graphic design’s history, critical discussions, theoretical texts, and contemporary practices is a necessity. A track record of published writing, curating, and community engagement is also desirable.
