Off-Campus Housing

Living in Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles areas

The Student Affairs Office, located in Room A207, maintains an on-line, off-campus housing referral database consisting of rental units available in apartment complexes, private homes, and rooms in private homes.  A roommate finder option is also made available to those students looking for housing. Click on the following link to view the listings: Search Housing Offers/Seekers.

In addition to referrals, the Student Affairs Office can assist by providing area maps, hotel and motel listings and resource handbooks dealing with tenant-landlord laws.

Inclusion of any property or rental unit on this website does not
constitute, and shall not be construed or reported as (1) an endorsement or approval by the California Institute of the Arts of the landlord, its properties, or its business practices, or (2) a warranty or representation by California Institute of the Arts as to the equality, safety or other features of such property and/or its owners or management agent(s).

Students wishing to live off-campus are urged to begin the housing search no later than August for the Fall semester. Keep in mind rent usually starts on the 1st or the 15th of each month.

Getting Started

Our website provides many resources to assist in your search for off-campus housing. The listings posted on our "Housing Offers" webpage consist of local units available for rent. The "Housing Seekers" webpage is a way for students to get into contact with other students for roommate possiblities. As there are a large number of students in need of off-campus housing, it may benefit your search by creating your own post under "Housing Seekers". It is a great way to ensure you are living with other CalArts students and the rental cost will become more affordable as more students share the unit.

Another good reference is our Guide to Off Campus Housing. Here you will find information about the local neighborhoods and apartment complexes, tips for finding an apartment and/or roommates, and a list of temporary housing options.

Internet fraud/scam alert

We have received a complaint regarding a scam that targets students and landlords via e-mail to rent property. Please be cautious of potential renters and sublessees who express a desire to rent your property sight-unseen.  Never issue refunds for over-payment on security deposits, first month's rent or utilities until you are certain the check you received has cleared (international checks take longer than domestic).  If you suspect Internet fraud, contact the police department.  For more information on this and other types of Internet fraud, please visit www.firstgov.gov.
