THEATER: The CalArts School of Theater invites you to attend the upcoming performances of Rabbit in the Blue, directed by Alexis Macnab (MFA Directing 2013) and written by Amanda Jane Shank (MFA Writing for Performance 2013). This vivid and intimate tale explores the mysterious reappearance of Daniel, a young man assumed lost by his family, in the lonesome fields surrounding his childhood home. While his parents and sister grapple with his sudden return, Daniel is haunted by his first love and the vanishing distinction between what is real and what is imagined.

In an effort to showcase the work of CalArts students to the greater Los Angeles community, this group of vibrant young artists is moving their new play downtown. Rabbit in the Blue will be presented downtown at the Broadway Civic Center (207 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012).

Structuring Strategies, Karen Johannesen Present 'Small Poetry,' a Program of Super 8 Films

March 5, 2013
Tuesday, March 5, 2013 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

CalArts, Bijou Theater

FILM/VIDEO: The Chicago 8 Small Gauge Film Festival is an annual 8mm experimental film festival dedicated to exhibiting current and historical small gauge works on film. Our goal is to keep small gauge filmmaking alive, to encourage further activity in small formats, and to provide an opportunity for these rare gems to be seen by the Chicago community and beyond. We realize how delicate and impermanent Super 8mm & small gauge filmmaking is, now more than ever. We feel it is of upmost importance to share these films with you and along the way we hope to inspire and support those who bravely continue to work in these small formats. The C8FF was founded in 2011.

Karen Johannesen is the Director and Programmer of Chicago 8 Small Gauge Film Festival. She is an experimental filmmaker with a Master’s degree from The San Francisco Art Institute. Karen has shown her films at: The International Film Festival of Rotterdam, the Toronto International Film Festival, San Francisco Cinematheque, Anthology Film Archive, The Museum of Modern Art NY, The Center of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona, the Korean Super 8 Experimental Film Festival, Images Festival in Toronto, and The Experimental Film Conference in England.
