School of Theater Audition Requirements

Acting Program Auditions

Prospective students must complete the Online Application form prior to scheduling an audition. All Admissions Requirements must be complete to be considered for admission.  

Auditions times for each day are either 9 am until 12 pm, or 1 pm until 4 pm. Please plan on being available for the entire block of time, although once your audition is complete, you may finish earlier. Be sure to bring a recent headshot and resume to your live audition.

2013 Design & Production Interview Schedule

Undergraduate Programs

Prospective students must complete the admissions application requirements and the online portfolio to be considered for admission. The Online Application must be submitted before an interview will be scheduled.  The online portfolio must be submitted well in advance of the interview.

The following dates are available for first year Design & Production applicants.  Transfer and graduate applicants should refer to the section below. Each interview session will last 30 to 60 minutes.  A small group tour will be available for interviews scheduled at the CalArts Campus in Valencia, CA.  Please bring a full, physical portfolio of work to your interview which supplements your online portfolio.

Design & Production Interviews: Transfer and Graduate Programs

Prospective students must complete the admissions application requirements and the online portfolio to be considered for
admission. The Online Application must be submitted before an interview will be scheduled.  The online portfolio must be submitted a minimum of one week in advance of the interview.   

Applicants will be contacted if an interview is requested by Faculty. Not all candidates will be invited to interview.  Interviews may be held by phone, although an in-person interview is preferred when possible.

The CalArts School of Theater will be attending 2012 National Unified Auditions/Interviews as part of U/RTA in Chicago and New York City, and will visit graduate applicants in all areas of Design, Technical Direction, and Management. We also hold interviews by appointment at our campus. 

General interviews for our Programs in Design and Production will be conducted for Transfer and MFA candidates. Each interview session begins with a 30-minute orientation by our faculty, followed by individual interviews. Applicants are asked to arrive at the beginning of the session, and to bring a full portfolio of work.
