The MFA Program in Creative Writing at CalArts is thrilled to announce Roxane Gay as the 2018 Katie Jacobson Writer in Residence. Her writings across genres as a novelist, memoirist and essayist, as well as her impact on promoting new writing in her work as an editor, strongly resonates for our program, inspiring our students as they establish their voices and creative practices within an expansive arts community. 

Gay’s writing appears in Best American Mystery Stories 2014Best American Short Stories 2012Best Sex Writing 2012A Public Space, McSweeney’sTin HouseOxford American,American Short FictionVirginia Quarterly Review and many others. She is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times. She is the author of the books AyitiAn Untamed StateThe New York Times bestselling Bad Feminist, the nationally bestselling Difficult Women and The New York Timesbestselling Hunger. She is also the author of the Black Panther superhero title, World of Wakanda, for Marvel. She has several books forthcoming and is also at work on television and film projects.

She will read at 7 pm on April 10, 2018, followed by Q+A and reception.
